This past week at The Academy we celebrated Earth Day all week long! Each class had discussions about why our Earth matters and what can we do to help keep it clean and green. By having our kiddos participate in hands-on activities we are helping them understand the importance of how we can help our Earth. We made homemade birdfeeders with sun-butter and bird seeds to help feed the animals on our planet, we then let our kiddos hang them up and watch the birds use them! We used bubble wrap to make imprints of beehives and talk about how bees help the Earth and us! We also made Earth day sensory bottles from recycled water bottles. These small activities brought joy and fun, but also showed importance and highlighted key ways we can keep our home clean!

Planting Seeds of Kindness
Last week here at the Academy of Harpeth Village we took advantage of the sunny warm weather and we had our kiddos learn about gardening! As we did this activity we talked about the importance of gardening, how it benefits us and our earth! Each child was able to scoop the soil into their own little pot and carefully put their seeds in! The playground was filled with giggles and questions as we explored how gardening works! Through this fun activity our kiddos began to understand patience, responsibility, and the magic of watching something grow. We love being able to help foster these lifelong memories with our students and watching their curiosity blossom within!

Lets Discover Art within Nature!
Art is all around us in nature and you can find it just by looking closely! Last week we took our Picassos out of the classroom and into nature to find their masterpieces! We gave our kiddos paper and let their imaginations run wild with ideas as the discovered the outdoor world. Spending time outdoors helps preschoolers develop important skills while building love and respect for the environment! Here at AOHV we encourage imagination and help enrich experiences for all our children, a stick isn't just a stick, its a magic wand and a pile of leaves can turn into a cozy blanket. As our students picked certain pieces of nature for their blank canvases we observed things like the colorful flowers blooming all around, the buzzing bees, the way the air smelled as the trees swayed from the wind. We talked about the different textures of rocks, dirt, and even characteristics of flowers! We encourage our children to express themselves in every way, shape and form!

Hippty Hoppty the Easter Bunny is in the building! AOHV buzzed with excitement as the children heard that the Easter Bunny was coming to visit. Brightly colored eggs were hidden all around the playgrounds, just waiting to be discovered! Laughter could be heard all around as all our kiddos had so much fun hunting for the eggs filled with treats! It was such a cheerful day filled with smiles, surprises, and springtime joy here at AOHV!
