Making Play-dough!

Play-dough serves many purposes in the development of young children! It can help them build their hand eye coordination and fine motor skills! When children measure out and create shapes with play-dough they are building their early math skills! Play-dough can also help children learn cause and effect as well as build language skills! Play-dough even helps children build their creativity and imagination! Our Preschool 3 class did all that and more when they created their own play-dough! They each took turns measuring ingredients, examining cause and effect, and building language skills while creating their own play-dough! They had a blast while doing this activity and felt very proud of their creation!

 

Infant Curriculum In Play!

You're never too young to learn! Our infant Frogstreet curriculum is intentionally designed to build strong learning foundations starting from ages 0-18 months! Our Infant 3 class loves learning new things with the help of their curriculum guide, Max the Frog! They love building their social emotional development, physical development, language development, and cognitive development, with their dear friend Max! 

                                       
                                        

Snow Much Fun!

We did not let the snow ruin our fun here at the Academy of Harpeth Village! We used the snow day as an opportunity to learn more about winter weather patterns and build our imaginations while engaging in snow sensory play! The children loved quickly gathering snow for their sensory activity! Our children enjoyed exploring the snow! Our teachers even left a snowman as a surprise for our toddler friends! Some friends liked the snow more than others, nevertheless, a fun time was had by all!

Hibernation Time!

There are a vast amount of strategies for animal survival in the wintertime. One of these strategies is hibernation. When animals enter hibernation they enter a state of suspended animation. Their breathing and heart rate slows and their body temperatures can drop, in some cases below freezing. They do all these things to use less energy. Our friends in PreK 2 are learning all about the process of hibernation. They had exploring how different animals hibernate in their natural habitats!

Self-Serving!

Self-serving involves the development of motor skills such as holding utensils and passing food. It also involves social skills such as good manners, learning to share, and to care for others at the table. These skills benefit preschool aged children's development and independence in eating at family meals.

Here Comes Santa Claus!

Today we had a special visitor come to the Academy of Harpeth Village! The students had the opportunity to see Santa Claus! Some friends were skeptical at first, but warmed up to Santa after awhile! They had so much fun getting to talk with Santa and get their picture taken! Thank you, Santa, for coming to visit us!

Sensory Time!

Sensory time is an important role in development. When you talk about senses, most kids over a certain age can rattle them off without problem: sight, smell, hearing, touch, and taste. Any and all of these can be incorporated into sensory play. At the Academy we like to encourage sensory time by letting them explore and create which gives us the opportunity to discuss what is happening at any given moment.

Outside Time!

On a playground, not everyone gets to go down the slide first. Going to the playground with your children is not just about running around and being active, but it's also about learning social skills, executive functions, and behavioral skills as well through play.
