We always love when Mr. Bruce comes to see us at the school. He had a great holiday show for us today and even pulled some friends out of the audience to be a part of the show! Great job Mr. Bruce for bringing such big smiles to our center! We love your magic and your bunny, Maybeline too!

Handmade Gifts!
The children throughout the center have been making such wonderful handmade gifts for their families this holiday season. We especially loved these special "handmade" ornaments that Ms. Toia & Mrs. Rachel made with their kids in PS4. What a special gift to remember how small and sweet little hands were when they were 3! Great job ladies and children.

Learning About Hanukkah
Today we had a visit from a friend to teach us about Hanukkah and all the traditions that are celebrated with this holiday. She read some stories to us about the Menorah which holds 8 candles. Then she talked to us about the wooden Dreidel game and gave each child one to take home. She mentioned traditional foods that are served, like the latke hashbrown and even gave us all doughnuts! It is wonderful that we have such devoted parents to take the time to teach these children about the Jewish holiday and the Mitzvah, which means a "good deed".

Big Week at AOHV!
We had a great week after our long Thanksgiving break! The scholastic book fair was here all week with new Christmas stories and gifts for the kids and they loved it! We had a canned food drive this week and we really appreciate the kindness of our families for those in need this holiday season. Our staff is doing a wonderful job with sweet holiday souvenirs for parents! Check out these great pictures from Mrs. Toia & Mrs. Rachel's PS4 class. We would like to also extend a special thank you to The Tant Family for buying our entire staff subway lunch today, and for giving us our first Christmas card this year! Have a great weekend everyone!

Happy Thanksgiving!
The TASK kids had such a great day out of school today! They started off their morning
in cozy pajamas with pancakes! Then they made the Classroom Palm tree into
a Pine tree and decorated ornaments to put on it! After that they went
outside and enjoyed a full hour of sunshine & fresh fall breeze and
had a jump rope competition! ( The high score was 27). The children this week have enjoyed watching Charlie Brown Thanksgiving and listening to
Christmas music. Our book fair is visiting and the everyone has enjoyed getting new Christmas stories. Happy Thanksgiving to all, we
hope you are blessed and thankful for your family, food, & friends!
See you back on Monday!

Thanksgiving Lunch!
Today we celebrated another great Thanksgiving meal prepared by Mrs. Anne & Mrs. Shayla and we had a wonderful turnout! We had smoked turkey, cornbread dressing with brown gravy, buttered corn, green beans, sweet potato casserole with marshmallows, rolls and four kinds of yummy dessert. We are so blessed for our children, families and hard working staff and it brings us great joy to see these families get together to enjoy a home cooked meal. The children had a great time seeing their families for lunch and their favorite part was the chocolate cake & icing! Thanks again for sharing your time and children with us. Happy Thanksgiving to you from the Academy of Harpeth Village.

Police Officers Come To Visit!
On Tuesday we had two police officers come to visit our school to speak with us about the importance of safety and the responsibilities of the job as a police officer. They answered questions and spoke about how to cross the street safely. They showed us how they use their equipment and how it aids in keeping people safe and abiding by the law. They even showed us how their sirens and lights work on their police cars. We are so fortunate to have these heroic men in our lives to look out for us!

Halloween Fun!
We had such a great Halloween party on Friday. The decorations throughout the center were adorable! The children loved going to each room and trick or treating, they even got to go through the "big kids room" in TASK for a fun haunted spider web tent. Thank you to all the parents who came to the parties and brought healthy snacks for the kids, it was a great success. We hope you all had a fun weekend and brushed your teeth!

Pumpkin Observations
To introduce the activity, we have the whole class discuss what the
pumpkins look like from the outside and what they might look like
on the inside. We also talked about roasting and eating pumpkin seeds as snacks. Then we let the children discuss the characteristics of
the pumpkins and the various ways they could measure and describe
them. Some examples would be: How tall? How big around? What about
the color, the shape? What is the weight? Does the number of outside
grooves tell anything? What about the smoothness of the pumpkin's
skin? The children have had a great time observing with pumpkins!
