The Little Rabbit Who Wanted Red Wings

We had the Nashville Library come to our school today to put on a puppet show. The children sat so quietly and watched. When little rabbit wishes for long, beautiful red wings, his wish comes true, but life is not at all as he'd expected: his friends, and even his own mother, don't recognize him! It not only teaches children be careful what you wish for, but most important just be you!

World Travel Week

We have had a great time learning about different cultures and different parts of the world. Mrs. Hilda is from South Africa so she did a presentation about South African culture and traditions. She brought in a special treat of rice krispies and caramel for the children, they always love special treats! Today we will have tacos as we enjoy our time learning about Mexico and speaking in spanish. The kids love singing the months of the ano'!

Tennessee Animals!

This week we have been talking all about Tennessee. We had a visitor from the Nashville Zoo come to show us some Tennessee native animals! There was a big corn snake, a opossum named George, a skunk named Lilly and a huge barn owl with beautiful big orange eyes.

Space Explorers and Science

Space Explorer week was a blast! We had the Adventure Science Center come to our center and teach us about the different planets, gravity, space food, and the three laws of motion. This was a great week to talk about space, considering some fun information found by NASA this week. NASA said Thursday that its Kepler spacecraft has spotted "Earth's bigger, older cousin": the first nearly Earth-size planet to be found in the habitable zone of a star similar to our own. Though NASA can't say for sure whether the planet is rocky like ours or has water and air, it's the closest match found yet. It will be fun to learn about when more information is generated.

Wee Chefs

What a blast we had last week! We got to make ice cream, butter, cookies, and boars head came for a visit so we could make chicken sandwiches. We are making great memories that will stay with us forever! They definitely got to use all their sense by touching, smelling, and tasting their own creations. We also got to use our fine motor, math, science, and literacy skills as well. What a fun way to learn and teach!

Special Treat on a Hot Day

We all love special treats! Kona Ice came for a visit on a hot day! The children got to make their snow cones with whatever flavor they wanted. The children are so funny how they pick their "flavor" it's really by the color. They all left with red and blue mouths.

Construction Zone

We have had an amazing summer here at AoHV! We have changed up the theme every week, so it always stays exciting. This week is all about construction zone. In our enrichment room we have set up one of our computers to make the sounds of a construction zone. While hearing the sounds of hammers, trucks, and other heavy equipment the children will learn what the environment is like. They will also learn what different signs look like, and what a crossing guard does to keep them safe.

We have had a wonderful summer so far in the TASK room! We have been swimming at the YMCA, toured Ace Hardware, ATA Martial Arts, Marble Slab, we have pizza parties, we go to the park every Monday and have Water day every Friday! Today was the most fun as we made farm animal masks and put on a musical show with Mr. Brad & Mr. Johnny! We are so proud of our big kids for being such wonderful role models for the younger classes.
